Cornwall is the cream of UK holiday hotspots
Is it any surprise that Cornwall with its natural assets, mythology, history and indulgent cuisine has won the Best UK Holiday Destination title (British Travel Awards)? Not to Jamie Alexander or Nick Waddington, general managers for Club La Costa Resorts and Hotels' two resorts in Cornwall.
Their enthusiasm goes beyond extolling the county's obvious virtues, they literally ensure a Cornish flavour can be savoured at both Hustyns near Wadebridge and Trenython Manor at Tywardreath, by using as much locally sourced product as possible in their restaurant kitchens.
Nick of Trenython Manor says: "Club La Costa members who visit us leave convinced that Cornwall is the perfect holiday or short break, because the resorts offer scrumptious food, fabulous facilities including spa, and all the great attractions are easily accessible by car.
"It's not just the lovely climate in this part of Britain, or the dramatic scenery and wonderful beaches, that help make Cornwall the best, we have so many top attractions such as the Eden Project, St. Ives Tate and celebrity chef restaurants."
His counterpart at Hustyns, Jamie Alexander, couldn't agree more. At his resort the head chef is keen to develop regionally influenced cuisine. Apples grown in the resort's orchard are used to recreate recipes found in 'The Cyder Book', a collection of traditional Cornish recipes put together by Club La Costa members. 'Taste of Cornwall' evenings have further enhanced Hustyns' reputation for serving top quality, Cornish dishes and beverages.
The coveted BTA awards are voted for by the public and this year Cornwall beat last year's winner the Lake District, reclaiming its 2006 title. Accepting the award, Steve Kessell of VisitCornwall said it came at a really exciting time as it coincided with the launch of the new and improved VisitCornwall website: www.visitcornwall.com
