After 14 very difficult years, the centre at San Juan, which is run by six people, now provides a home to 31 adults, all with specific needs, and its programme "The Spiral" has 65 other students who take part in learning activities at its Farm School.
Students at San Juan benefit from what is a true healing environment, supported by the efforts of individuals, charities and the social services, to enable them to have a job and a way of life that is enriched by social, professional, artistic and cultural experiences.
Fidel Ortega said: "Gestures such as this by The Smile Foundation give us the opportunity to put plans into effect that will allow us to continue to improve the quality of life for those in need."
Responding on behalf of The Smile Foundation, Carlos Monserrat said: "We are delighted that our contribution will make a difference to the daily lives of those local people who have special needs."
History of the Smile Foundation
Club La Costa founded The Smile Foundation on the Costa del Sol in 1999. Its original objectives continue, namely to help as many needy people as possible, whether financially or materially, in the local areas surrounding Club La Costa resorts.
This aim has been achieved thanks to the continuing support and dedication of the Foundation in raising funds for local charitable work, helping those less fortunate to smile more often.
In early 2007, The Smile Foundation extended its work to Tenerife, where Club La Costa has made a considerable commitment with four resorts in the south of the island, and with future expansion plans. The Smile Foundation is a charitable organisation and its principal aim in Tenerife is to give the same help as it does in the communities and areas of the Costa del Sol.
Club La Costa takes care of all administrative and publicity costs associated with the charity, ensuring that 100 per cent of all donations reach their intended destination. None of the Committee Members receives a salary or reclaims expenses associated with their charitable work.
Club La Costa Resorts & Hotels has 23 resorts across Europe and more than 50,000 members. For more information visit www.clublacosta.com
